I think I'm actually glad I switched to a limited plan years ago. Am pretty used to it, no problem staying under limits, and don't have to find myself going through all this Post Traumatic Stress of losing unlimited data.

I do think Verizon's current Share Plans are TERRIBLE value for dollar particularly for single line users like me, so there's no way I'm switching to them until the price structure improves. As for this unlimited data nonsense, once current unlimited contracts expire (June 2014) they should just cut it all off,  transfer then month-to-month users to tiered and be done with it so everybody's in the same boat and no more excuse to complain.  Some guy on FiOS was taken to task for consuming 77 Terabytes (that's 77 THOUSAND gigabytes) on his "unlimited" service.  There IS such a thing as abuse after all.

Verizon's customer base has actually increased since they announced unlimited data was being dropped.  Also, there's already congestion of towers in high populace areas...unlimited data made it even worse - no one seems to take this into realization.

On other blogs, I've even seen posters swagger in asserting claims to using 50-70 Gigs/month on VZW's unlimited plan that the company will have to "pry from their cold dead hands." Definitely cause for congestion concerns in densely populated areas, seeing as VZW continues to gain customers despite their awful Share Plan pricing. I'm sorry, but I just can't see the value in paying $80/month for a plan with only 500 Meg on it when the same $80 gets me 4 Gig on the tiered plan, of which 2.5 Gig I won't even use this month. So "unlimited" is hardly an issue for me in any case. I'd be delighted if VZW would let me tether on 2 Gig as I don't even use that much, but 2 Gig with tethering on the Share Plan would run me $110/month. Ouch. So my beef isn't with the caps per se, it's with this terrible value for dollar business model.  No wonder Verizon execs fondly call these plans "profit generating engines." With quarter over quarter margins in excess of 50% would certainly say so.

You have to start limiting your usage because that is what is now offered.  I remember when a taco at Taco Bell was $0.59.  By your logic, you should still be able to walk into Taco Bell and get the same price.  And you seem to missing the point of the contract.  The reason Verizon has contracts is so they know they will have an inflow of cash.  They offer the devices at a subsidized price as an incentive for you to sign that contract (they even lose money on the devices to get that signature).  Of course, you do seem to have hit the nail on the head, if you want unlimited data, but don't want to pay full price for the device, you are going to have to go to a different carrier (and quite possibly deal with lesser service).  And, they are not losing a large part of their customer base, they are adding new customers all the time and year over year are a growing company.

You missed my entire point. My point was, I want to pay FULL price for a new phone, just pay installments over a period of time. I'm not asking for a subsidized price and still keep my unlimited data. In essence, I am off contract right now and can walk away any time. Verizon could basically lock me in for another year with the installment plan. Why would I leave if I'm committed to a $700 phone that won't work anywhere else? Also, it turns out that there is indeed a way to use the device installment plan and keep unlimited. Allegedly.

I wonder if Verizon Wireless has now dropped the device payment plan that the $2 monthly finance charge. That sounds like what you, , was trying to do.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I did several online chats with customer service, and they told me that I absolutely could do the device installment plan and not lose my unlimited. The store and phone in service all told me that I could not. I'm going to give it a try because I really need a new phone.

Yeah, it looks like the emails don't tell you who the reply was in response to.  That's inconvenient.
