Please READ carefully?  I have several upgrades available from basic phone lines.  We have never had a problem transferring a basic phone upgrade to a smart phone upgrade in the past.  Doing so has never required adding data to the basic phone line either.

I never said I was planning to transfer the upgrade from my Unlimited line to the $30/2gb line.

I do apologize, if you use one of the basic phone upgrades you can keep the unlimited on your two unlimited lines. There is no loophole that you wont be able to do this.

I was informed by Verizon Customer Service that, after June 28, Transfer Upgrades of a subsidized phone to a line with the Unlimited Feature would automatically result in the loss of that Unlimited Feature. What remains a gray area to me is if the subsidized phone was purchased prior to June 28 and then subsequently transferred to the Unlimited Line. Verizon is tracking all subsidized phone purchases from their store, so it seems there may be a risk unless Verizon is also factoring in the date of subsidized purchase (pre- or post- June 28). Time will tell for sure.

This is a chat I just had with a Verizon rep.

Sounds like subsidized phones do not get tracked like you were thinking?

yeah, not sure how that would work.  Sure they'd have a lot of angry people buying off of Craigslist or ebay when people sell their old phones only to find out activating it would trigger a plan change.  That would certainly go over well.

I am also hearing conflicting answers from Verizon customer service. I have 2 telephone representative/ supervisor confirmations stating that subsidized phone purchases after 6/28 will be tracked and transfers of those subsidized phones to lines with the unlimited data feature will not be possible, unless you wish to replace the unlimited feature with a tiered data package). Today I spoke with a customer service representative who informs that the other representatives had incorrect information. Is their a Verizon moderator reading theis chain who can clarify what the correct answer is?

Sucks that it depends who you talk to.  Just got off the phone, we have a family plan 2 smart phones 2 basic phones.  Was told that even if you upgrade a basic phone to even another basic phone, then you must switch over the Share Family everything plan and my 2 smartphones with unlimited data would be switched over as i'm using a subsidy on my account.  So frustrating to get 84 different answers, even from the verizon reps.

And they were 100% WRONG... Whoever you talked to, you should have had them talk with a manager. They are not going to force you into the Family Share Everything plan. (At least not right now)

That's ok, yesterday I had a conversation with a manager of a Verizon Reseller Store (Wireless World), and he told me the same thing, that once you did the upgrade, you were in the Share plan. I told him he needed to verify that answer before Thursday, as they would make a lot of ticked off people. He told me that their regional VP even confirmed this. Today, after they had 1 more Webinar on the new plan, I talked to him, and he said I was correct, that it is strictly an option. Boy, did he fell like you know what...

I have the family plan with unlimited data and my son lost his phone so we used an update on annother line to get him a new phone and they removed his unlimited data from his number only. I called verizon and they said that there was nothing that could be done. I spend 400 a month on my account and I told them I am switching carriers, every time a phone ends its contract I am pulling off the ones that do not have the unlimited data until I have no phones left on virizion, I know there are carriers that offer unlimited data and they will gladly take the business from verizion. Maybe if enough people leave they will change their policy

You should pursue this topic with a Supervisor since the transfer could have been enacted in an alternative manner that would NOT have resulted in loss of Unlimited Data on your son's line, but rather on the donor line from which the upgrade was utilized. The new, correct method is to simply upgrade the donor line directly and then call Customer Service when the phone arrives. Customer Service then would have transferred and activated the new phone on your son's line. This method would have kept Unlimited on your son's line and you would have lost Unlimited data on the Donor line if it had this feature. A Supervisor should be able to assist you since you had no way of knowing that this alternative method would have worked the way you originally intended.
