I was charged an additional $15 for "unbilled data from prior months". I am on a share everything plan and we did not exceed our 6GB of data, in fact we only used 4.340 for the month. The Unbilled usage is claiming a billable amount of use as .003, judging from the numbers above we should well have that covered in our data plan. After calling and speaking with a representative I was informed that this charge was for using data on other carrier's towers. REALLY??!! I was an AT&T customer for 10 years and once received a charge such as this. If we are going to be charged for using other carriers towers then we should have the option not to use their towers. This is a poor business practice and one that will cause me to take my business elsewhere.
It's not that you were charged just for using another carrier's tower. When you're using data through another carrier's tower then there is delay in that usage being reported to Verizon Wireless - thus there's a delay in that data being allocated to you. The .003 made you go over your allowance for the previous month's usage so you were charged the proper overage.
I would contact customer service again then and have them re-analyze it. It could be a possible billing error. You're only charged for overage, not for simply accessing another carrier's tower.
Good call! I completely understand being charged an overage(if you go over) but from everything the first rep said the charge was due to using other carriers towers - which I thought was a common practice and not one that we were billed for. There is actually several discussions on this forum with the same issue. I hoping it will gain some attention from the company and they will take note to be more cautious about this in the future!
I made an alert post last week covering this practice. in my case I use mostly wifi and I have unlimited data but laughed when I seen the notation on this months invoice. I went no where but around my own town and this popped up. it was a few Kb not megabytes or gigabytes. but I strongly believe verizon is doing this to the tiered plans to get that overage charges.
When they went to metered data it was to screw over the customers. They claim 95% of their customers use 2GB or less, but now these same 95% mysteriously now are going over. Do you see a pattern here?
Yes - I had actually read your post before posting mine! Totally see the pattern and you are correct they are using it to screw over the customers. I hope more customers will be vocal about the issue. The interesting thing is that in my case it did not push me to an overage, therefore, I'm not sure how they are rationalizing this charge. All the rep could tell me was that it was due to using other carriers towers.
Norma, I understand that unexpected overage charges are upsetting and I'll be happy to clear up any questions. Unbilled usage means that this is usage from your last bill period. It would not apply to your current data allotment as data does not rollover. You may have been over or close to going over on your last bill. Also, while it is more likely to incur unbilled usage when on an extended network or roaming on another carrier, it can happen on your home network as well. Usage may take an extra day or two to post in our system and we'll reflect that amount on your next bill. So if you used exactly 6GB of data on your last bill, but used more data on the last day or two of your cycle, that would be considered overage for your last month's bill, not the current.

That was a good answer, but.....
The notation is on my invoice this month and I don't use metered data. I am unlimited data, have been from day one and I never been billed or had seen that on any invoice before.
The amount listed was $0.00 and since I don't roam and I am in my home mostly wifi and unlimited should not have shown a few kb of use at $0.00 There cannot be "unbilled Data Charges" when you are on UNLIMITED
That is why I believe this is what verizon is doing to scam money out of their tiered and share data users. If it says unbilled data use from prior months there should be proof of where it originated from. Roaming or home use etc.
By not showing Verizon can pull this overage data scam on everyone not on unlimited.

That data does not rollover, and C. if you used exactly 6GB of data on your last bill, but used more data on the last day or two of your cycle, that would be considered overage for your last month's bill, not the current.
What I don't understand is how Verizon practices "charging unbilled usage when on an extended network or roaming on another carrier, it can happen on your home network as well". There were no instances of roaming for me, therefore, you are claiming that I used another carriers network/tower and therefore am being charged for it. However, you do not give the user any indication of when we are using another carriers network/tower, therefore, we have no control over how much or how often this is occurring. For the record, I checked the last bill's data and according to the amount of "unbilled" usage it does not put me at an overage from the previous month. I have also noticed several forums where many users are encountering this same charge and I believe I also noticed a lawsuit in this regard.
