Both me and my mom are grandfathered into an unlimited data plan and we both want to keep it that way. My old iPhone 4 as grown too slow for my tastes and I am looking at getting a "new" phone to replace it. As far as I am aware, I can buy an unsubsidised phone to replace my iPhone and keep my unlimited plan. Unfortunately, that has me looking at 1-2 year old phones on eBay that have fallen into the affordable $200 dollar range. I would love to be able to buy a brand new phone for the same price. Here is my idea, my aunt Lee is on the same account as me, does not have unlimited data and she is eligible for an upgrade. Could I have her upgrade her phone. Then take the new phone and put it on my line. Then put her old phone back on her line? That way she is still has a smart phone on the line that was upgraded and can keep the phone with out paying the fee that makes it cost as much a paying full price for a new phone and I just happened to get my unsubsidised phone from her.
Thanks for any help and please for the love of god, tell me if anything I am amusing about keeping my unlimited data is out of date. I feel like I am navigating a constantly changing mine field every time I so much as think about changing anything to do with the cell phones.

Be very aware of the recent changes VZW has made toward making it very expensive to keep your unlimited data plans.
If you use a non-data plan line to upgrade to a smartphone you will be forced into not only a contract for the line but also a MIN $30/month data charge. Both lock you in for 2 years. If your Aunt already has the $30/month plan for data then you should be all set. However if you only have the $10/month or no-data your line will now be more expensive.
This was changed in 10/2014 and without any notice. The customer service reps were also unaware when this was done and have since been taking a beeting.

Your plan will work. have your Aunt upgrade her line to the device that you want. then do a simple device ID change over to your line and put her old device back on her line.
The only obstacle I see is if she currently has a basic phone on her line or if the upgrade is to the EDGE program.

I don't think it's buyer beware. The feature is no longer in effect and there should not be any tricks to try to get around it.
By the way it's spelled beating.

I apologize for the spelling error. The main point I wanted to make was to bring this change to their attention. I was not made aware of this change and when I upgraded. Pehaps I should have said "Buyer Be Aware"

My aunt has an iPhone with the limited data plan already, so I should be good there.
Does anyone have the wording of the Nov. rule change? It is hard to know exactly what I can and can't do with the paraphrased versions I found.

If you have unlimited data you are not on the "The MORE Everything Plan"
