Are you referring to the optional device tech support included with insurance?
There is no fee to call, or upgrade, with customer support. I believe they do charge a fee if you pay over the phone with a customer service representative.

Correct, if you have a discrepancy with your bill or if and when you need clarification there will be a charge to speak with someone. Or you can try their chat at no added charge, except for cost paid by way of stress/frustration/lack peace of mind.
Upgrade free/erroneous fees; a rose by any other name...
At the end of the day it's another way Verizon avoids transparency and it's disappointing as a long time customers to experience Verizon operate with such dishonesty. This was not the norm when I joined.
