Upgrade Options

Today I contacted a agent and was asking about doing an early upgrade on 3 phones my family has. One is do and 2 are early upgrades. to get the phones we want we was told we would have to buy the phones out right which would be 1000$ plus. So I asked what would be are early cancelation fee and was told 400$. Si told them that would be cheaper and we could switch to a new carrier and get the phone we want. The agent did not try to keep us or try to work with us. Is this the way Verizon treats all customers? Do you not try to work with customers and try to keep their business??

If you are still in contract what do you expect? U didn't fulfill your deal of the agreement why should any carrier budge to you?

Rather than a flippant answer, how about a full scoop?

the first thing to understand is all carriers now require you to buy your own phone, one way or another.  The costs of phones are usually separate from line fee and data costs. (Ala' carte)

the best way to stay out of contract is to buy a phone for full retail cost, which for phones today is $500-1,000 for each phone.  Some new phones are less.  Buying an older, new phone can be a real bargain.

If you enter into a 2 year contract, you will have early termination fees to cover the cost of the phone.

IF you purchase a phone on the Edge program, you are obligated to pay off the phone if you cancel service.

If you are on a 2 year contract now, you are limited to a couple of phones to upgrade early.  If you wait until the 2 years is done, you can pick any phone you want and use Edge to finance the phone.

I hope this explains the process ...

For some reason they really don't care right now,  more people will leave and maybe then they will change their attitude towards customers.

Totally right so why stay with Verizon?

Why stay with Verizon?

1.  You want or need the nationwide coverage.

2   Any phone you buy from Verizon is unlocked out of the box.

3    All carriers require you to buy your own phone.

4    Verizon keeps lowering cost and increasing data allowance.

5    Customer service with other carriers is not substantially different.  Read other forums, you will see some of the exact same complaints.

So you should be able to get a phone at discount and AGREE to a 2 year contract and if Verizon doesn't let you out of that contract early then THEY are the bad guy? They are unfair to customers? I'm 1000% sure if Verizon wanted to extend your contract by a year you'd INSIST they live up to the original terms. Yet people like you feel you don't have to do the same. please explain that logic? The entitlement attitude is ruing this nation.

useless_username,

i agree.  The cheapest carriers now require you buy a phone outright, no finance plans, no 2 year contracts.

THe last time we were due for upgraded phones, I payed full retail so I could keep my bill low and leave if I'm not happy with service.  No surprise, customer service is very nice to people who can leave the service, especially when they have 5 phones and 2 tablets on the service.  Plus I auto pay 2 days before my due date.

While we are at it, can the phase "Ive been a loyal customer..." Be stricken from forums, like bad words, please?

Just so you know, if you cancel and pay your early termination fees, you could lose your number.  Make sure are reading and understand everything before you cancel.  There is a good chance you will not get your number back.

- I agree with your comment about: "Ive been a loyal customer..."  I thought I was the only person who thought this.  Do people really know what the word "Loyality" means? If you even think about going to another carrier dosen't that, inturn, make you not a loyal customer. I think its funny everytime. lol.

I Bet we are not alone!  It triggers an instant eye roll.

I Admit I am only as loyal as my budget allows.   And my attitude is "what have you done for me lately"

I am watching the "cell wars" with interest.   This is the first time Verizon has been cheaper than AT&T.   And the pressure is still on to lower data cost while increasing GBS.   I would like to see all financing go away (another complaint I'm sick of hearing)    And I am hoping more phones will be unlocked and compatible with all carriers like the iphone 6 and Nexus 6.
