To downgrade VZ Navigator from 5.0 to 4.5, do the following:

V4.5 is available (Media Center devices only)

  1. Open VZ Navigator and select Menu > Sync with Web
  2. If you have not yet registered on www.vznavigator.com <http://www.vznavigator.com/>  you will need to.
  3. Open Media Center > Browse and Download
  4. Highlight VZ Navigator and select Options > Cancel Subscription (for V5.0)
  5. Confirm Removal
  6. Open Media Center > Browse and Download > Get New Apps > Travel and Navigation
  7. VZ Navigator is listed twice, select Verizon 4.5, and choose a purchase option ($2.99/24 hour use or $9.99/monthly subscription).
  8. Confirm purchase.
  9. Make sure you choose to sync with the website when prompted to transfer their favorites.

*Note:VZ Navigator 4.5 is only available for download until June 30, 2010.

THANK YOU to Verizon for allowing customers to go back to the old version of NAVIGATOR.  The newer version 5 in a nightmare and an accident waiting to happen.  I can't see any change that was made that improved the service from having smaller print to having to push more buttons to get what you needed, and that is only 2 of the many problems with the upgrade!  I have been holding out hoping you would allow us to downgrade and now I am glad I did.  I really don't want to change from your service. However,   I was just getting ready to cancel because I found a Tom Tom I was going to buy and came across this forum.  I am now very happy with having the old version back and as long as I can keep that version, I will NOT be switching to another GPS service.  I love the old version.

If you are only allowing the old version to be changed back to until the end of June, then I suggest you write all the GPS customers of this choice before it is too late.  I called the company several times in the past month and was told I could not change back.  If you don't notify everyone then those persons who are not ambitious to seek out this forum or call your company may just cancel your service.  AGAIN THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

After reading many of the responses, I have to say this. I am sooo glad that I can downgrade to the previous version by deleting and reinstalling via Media Center.

It is a real shame that whoever finalized the program:

1. did not include a really useful help screen, 2. Did not look at the previous version, 3. Did not ask the customer what would be helpful, 4. Did not ask Facebook how to design properly intergrated Facebook application, 5. And did not upgrade the Vz Navigator website to accomodate both versions of the application.

I really like having the convience of accessing navigation from phone from anywhere, but I definetly do not like the dumbed down version 5 for cell phones. I hope that the next major or incremental software release will address all of the issues posted on this forum of interested users.

Is there anyway to get navigator 4.5 without using the method you described/  I no longer have the Verizon app on my phone that connects to area you described.  A CAB file would be great if you can provide it or the link address so I can type it directly into my Skyfire or IE browser.

Does your device currently have "get it now"? In order to downgrade to VZ Navigator 4.5 your device must have the "get it now" feature. Hope this helps!

No my custom ROM doesn't have the Get It Now any longer.  Any ideas how to reload the Get it now feature?

Just an update to my previous post about thanking Verizon.     A couple of months later, my EnV3 crashed when I was sent a picture.  The only solution was to give me a new phone.  Thanks for honoring the contract - however..   With the new phone I had to download the new GPS version 5.1.  I spoke with several of the personnel regarding this all the way up to a manager in North Carolina.  The bottom line is that it is not possible once you change your phone to get the old version 4 again.  So I bought a TOM TOM.  I hate it compared to what I had with Verizon but I had no choice.  I refused to pay for software that will only get me in an accident.    Good Luck

I hear version 5 is great with Blackberries.  Also apparently Droids have a great navigation system.

Well, whoopteedoo, how fantababulous.

And what about us little people who can't or won't cave in the the smartphone craze, do we just go crash into a ditch so verizon can cater to the important (read: high paying) customers?

No, you can choose between the "choices" of increasing Verizon's profit by buying a smartphone, paying for data, and earning the privelege of accessing a usable navigation program -OR- you can increase some other company's profit by purchasing a standalone navigation device.  I'm fairly sure that Verizon doesn't care which path you take, or if you just keep paying for 5.1.0 even if it doesn't work.  Either way, more money for Verizon!

Well, I am now looking to buy a TomTom or a Garmin.  No way will I pay for a service that causes this much aggravation.
