Verizon Prepaid ok until about a year ago - now very slow

I have been using Verizon Prepaid for about 6 years, the speed was ok until about a year ago and it's slowed considerably and I can't make video calls at all or they drop off after a few minutes of use, webpages take forever to load. 

I never really had an issue until about a year ago, but now Verizon Prepaid service is very slow. I have called tech support who 'adjusted' a few network settings, but I don't really notice any difference.

Have other people noticed a big drop-off in the last year or so?

Verizon Prepaid is a decent price, but I can't use it anymore it's so bad. What other provider plans have people switched to?

I'm currently paying $39 for 15gb of data (though 8gb would be enough) including taxes and discounts.
