Verizon Trade-In Program COMPLETE SCAM. STAY AWAY.

I traded in my iPhone 7 plus in last month under the promotion of receiving $579.99 trade in credit towards a new iPhone 12 pro.

I decided to get this deal and was guaranteed by an agent I spoke to online that I would get the $579.99 trade-in credit.

I was not really willing to trade in as it was perfectly fine phone, however was flattered at $579.99, ended trade-in my iPhone 7 plus which had no issues. No signs of wear or crack as I had used it for a couple years. I powered the device on and did a factory reset. The "welcome to iPhone" screen was present, and was as responsive as new iPhone is. I even double checked.

So anyway, I placed the order for the upgrade phone on April 14th and sent the phone to the trade-in department on 19th. I contacted Verizon last week and online agent said my phone is STILL under investigation and it takes a couple more days and was told i would receive an notification email or whatever. So... I just waited and waited. But then I wondered WHY it would take that long when my phone works perfectly and looks pretty brand new? Yesterday which is May 7th, I started talking online asking about the status. And she said.... "YOUR PHONE WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND THERE WAS CRACKS" um... WHAT?! I was extremely shocked and upset. I should have taken the phone before sending back.

Agent gave me a number to call trade-in department. NOW. she was saying the same thing. MY PHONE WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND THERE WAS CRACKS. There was absolutely ZERO damage to the phone. Since day 1, it had a protective case and you know YES I have been still using 7 plus and there is a reason that why I have been using an old model. Because i don't want to spend money! Also I had been staying with cheapest plan.

In order to take the 579.99 trade in promo, I had to stay with UNLIMITED plan for 24 months which is under payment plan. I just wanted to pay at once, but she said I have to do monthly payment. So.. well I asked if i could switch back to my old cheapest plan after 24months? and she said YES.

NOW. My 7 plus is total junk as they say with being unresponsive and all, I have to pay 1299 retail price. I asked at least I could go back to an old plan. she said yes and she tried for a long time and told me she couldn't do it and also I agreed to stay with unlimited plan for 24months, so i have to wait. UM WHAT?!

Do you hear? very money sensitive customer here... now I have to stay with expensive Unlimited plan on top of paying for 1299???? I am just SOOO MAD AND UPSET and was shocked to hear so many people got into that scam. I truly thought Verizon was the best carrier out there until yesterday.

I need to file a complaint.

I don't blame you for feeling let down by what happened. When the device comes back with the classification of damage, a picture is sent. To be sure, was the picture of the phone received?

Unfortunately it is too late now for you but I never, I mean never send a device to Verizon for trade. There are too many stories in this forum explaining lost phones, phones that claimed to be damaged on receipt or other bogus stories.

An iPhone 7Plus isn't worth $580, but Verizon wants you to jump on the deal. Then there's always a catch.

I've been with Verizon for 28 years but now I buy all my devices from Apple or Best Buy. Within the last five months I traded three iPhones with Apple. They quote the price, I send it to them and within a week I have my credit. No games, no hassle.

I'm sorry this doesn't help your situation. Too bad more people don't check the posts here before falling for a deal that is too good to be true and ends up costing more money.

I never received any photos. My friends are also shocked by this nonsense. They all know my phone was great. I wanted to return and she said it's too late..well I was told to wait when I contacted you earlier. And I waited again and got the same response. That has already passed by 3 weeks. Why would I take the risk when you will know the condition of my phone when you receive it? I ain't stupid.

I just read your post and I am dealing with the same issue of them not wanting to credit my $579. I have been told that the promotion was not for the line that I traded in but for another line on my account. What? I had not even mentioned the other line, they knew which line I was talking about. 5 months later and about 7 representatives, I'm still fighting this issue.

I don't know what scam they are trying to pull, but if this is the case, I will lose trust in Verizon and will take my business elsewhere. I am so frustrated and these calls take over an hour. I do not have that time to keep wasting!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

I ported over my parents from sprint and I have had Verizon for over 10+ years. You received the devices 6 months ago and they were not broken or cracked. I have the submission IDs when you need them. I have been calling monthly and they keep transferring me or saying the credit is coming next month each month. Please look up my call and chat record. I demand to know where these phones are and were our credit is for them. Please either send us the phones back or provide credit immediately. I have been trying to chase this down for 4 months now, if I do not hear back, I will be going to the BBB and FTC to file a complaint.

We definitely understand where you are coming from. We definitely want to figure this out. Did you use the original return packaging materials that we sent you? Did someone pick up your return in person or was it left at a drop-off box location? - ChristianP_VZW

We want to help you with this situation with the trade in and we apologize for the long calls. Do you have a submission ID that we can use to track the trade? When did this trade get sent in?
