Verizon Wireless continues to get worse. I ported out a phone number to my son when he turned 18 and was charged $300. 4 phone calls later and now I have an irate husband who is now disconnecting all the phones. We have been Verizon customers for over 10 years. Their customer service sucks and I would rather pull my own fingernails off than to have to call them. Do yourself a favor and go with anyone besides Verizon Wireless. We sure will be.
IF you were charged $300, it is because you were still under contract with verizon. Either his phone was recently upgraded (5-6 months ago?) or someone else used the upgrade on another line.
Read your contract, under my Verizon, My documents. When you purchase a subsidized phone, you agree to a monthly line fee for 2 years.
FYi: I believe you could have done a transfer of billing responsibility for his line without incurring an early termination fee.
Very true. I can think of no other reason for a $300 charge other than having cancelled service just a few months into a contract. An assumption of liability would have been a very quick process with no fee.
Unless the OP ported the number to another carrier. Then the ETF would be unavoidable. However, there are carriers paying that via giftcard but I don't know if that would apply if the new account was not under the same name as the Verizon account. Any company will charge you an ETF if you break contract, but they cannot charge you simply for porting the number out.
Yes, we need more information about the plan, contract, length of service, reason for porting, and general explanation of the issue.
Verizon doesn't charge you for porting out a number, they charge you for cancelling a line of service still under contract. Porting out a line results in cancellation of that line of service. If still under contract when the cancellation becomes effective, you are responsible for the ETF, which in this case appears to be $300.
it sounds like the line was still under contract if you reactivate that line with in 30 days and then do an aol they can actually remove that etf
We were not informed that any charges were going to occur. We kept the
line and the phone for our other son. So nothing really changed. The 18
year old already purchased a different plan with another company. We
didn't want to really change anything except try to give him his phone
number. If we were told about the charges we could have discussed
something different. 3 supervisors said that they would fix it and then
never did. We have been Verizon customers for over 10 years with numerous
lines. We will now be cancelling phone lines as they come due and going
somewhere else. We are very disappointed how this was handled.

You have had cell service for 10 years and never heard of early termination fees before? In 20 years with Verizon, it was always in bold print when I got a new phone and signed a new 2 year contract. $375 early termination fee
This is what happens when you break a contract, you have to pay off the balance. It seems you have learned your lesson, as you are now waiting until all the other lines are out of contract before seeking new service.
Your new carrier will expect you to buy your own phone and pay for service.
