I didn't know that I was terminating a contract. Nobody said that and I

still kept the line and phone for my other son. I didn't want to

terminate the line or change the phone so please don't act like I am

stupid. I have never ported out a number before and we called asking how

to do that and what it entailed. We kept the line and the phone. Never

was a word spoken about a termination fee or we would have explored other

options because of course we know about the early termination fee.

The number is tied to a specific line. When you port that number out you are closing it with Verizon. Whatever line you kept or have for the other person is NOT the same line that you ported out. You honestly should have understood that each phone number is directly connected to one line. Especially if you have had service for 10 years. The carrier you switched to knew full well that you were closing account by porting to them. They weren't going to discourage it because they wanted the business. If your son had planned to port to another carrier then it would have been smart not to upgrade the phone on that line at all because by doing so you agreed to keep the line for another 2 years. Unfortunately the error isn't Verizon's on this.

It just would have been nice when we called Verizon and asked about it if

they would have said that. But they didn't say anything when we

specifically asked.

And who in the family has been doing the phone buying and signing of new 2 year contracts? ( which as a customer of 10 years with at least 3 lines has been done approximately 15 times if new phones were purchased every 2 years )
