To clarify my question, I don't want to just delete my personal contacts.  I want to make sure that everything on the flip phone is completely wiped out and that there is no sign of my cell phone number or account left on it so that nobody can access any of this personal information.  It's for the same reasons why I had the hard drive erased before discarding an old computer.  Merely deleting files from a computer won't necessarily prevent a hacker from being able to still get the information.  Can any cell phone store or dealer completely erase everything from a flip phone?

Also, this is a pre-paid account.  I will be switching providers before getting an i-phone.  Before I close the book on VZW, do I need to contact VZW directly by phone to cancel my account or is it safe to just leave this account "abandoned" (for lack of a better word)?  This is a pre-paid cell phone that does not have a contract and from what I understand, I believe the account "expires" once I stop re-fillng the minutes.

But again, I want to be sure that the slate is wiped clean before moving onto the new provider.
