Which Basic Phones offered by Verizon have tethering capabilities? Very few options.

Hello - If you're familiar with the Verizon basic phones - which ones can be used to tether as a modem though Bluetooth AND  cable to a laptop? (It appears to me that they are offering only complete antiquated plastic featureless junk to push people to go with a smartphone requiring a data plan if purchased -  but are any available with tethering capabilities?) Even the reviews show MOST of the reviews for nearly every phone there users reccomend AGAINST buying?

I believe there are a HUGE selection of about 5 or 6 options to pick from - including the lg revere that boasts an incredibly avanced 1.3 mp camera and you can send a text message easily just by pressing keys numerous times to select letters individually until a word is created - but can the piece of plastic be tethered? Can any of the others shown?

Any basic phone that can tether would still need a hotspot data plan. A far as the choices oh well. If you want phones with good features get a smartphone. You can always buy a actual digital camera if you need one more than 1.3 MP. Actually Verizon offers 9 basic phones for sell. It doesn't sound like much but they only offer 21 smartphones. Also Verizon can't sell what isn't made. If no one is making basic phones Verizon can't sell them can they?

Thanks for the reply - but it doesn't answer the  question - of the basic phones offered by Verizon = which ones can be tethered to a laptop through bluetooth and a cable with a data plan?

(I already have a basic phone - a razr 2 v9m that I've had for years but need to replace by the end of march. I seldom use it as it's more of a redundant service for backup as I also have a prepaid blackberry 9310 that I bought for $45 from Boostless and I get unlimited talk, text, data, for $45/mo and optional use as a hotspot for numerous laptops for an additional $10 that I bought through Boostless. I haven't used the hotspot because I have wifi available in most locations I travel. I seldom use my Verizon phone and haven't made or received a call with it in months - so it doesn't make sence for me to buy a smartphone and am looking at basic phones that I'll seldom use - but I want the same capability as what I already have and have been paying for for the last decade)

Again -  which ones can be tethered to a laptop through bluetooth and a cable with a data plan?

A basic phone with a data plan and smartphone with a data plan are going to be the same price if you want to use the phone as a hotspot. IF it's even possible.

Also if all you want to do is use the phone for tethering a lap top why not just get a USB dongle on a Share Everything plan for just the dongle and it would be $50 a month for 4 GB. Which would be cheaper than what you want to do. And you'd get 4G speeds

I don't want to change plans and really don't want to buy another phone - but in order for me to keep the plan I have they say it requires buying a basic phone but not a smartphone as it would change my current plan. I currently use an old Motorola razr 2 v9m that that can be tethered to a laptop if needed. I hardly ever use the phone for either calling, or tethering, and never for text. Wifi is available in most places that I use my laptops and I have a Boostless prepaid phone at their lowest rates for blackberry's with unlimited everything for customers to call or text which is cheaper than anything Verizon has to offer - my verizon account is more of a redundant backup but would like to keep the number active as I have for the last decade.

If I could just buy a smartphone and continue as I am - I wouldn't be looking at their basic phones. This brings me back to my original question - can ANY of their basic phones be tethered? Anyone?

As I said since you do not use the phone as phone why not get a USB dongle on Share Everything plan. I don't you realize even if you could find a basic phone that could tether via bluetooth you'd be paying MORE per month. Than doing what I suggested. Now why do you want to pay MORE per month?

Basic phone with minimum minutes $40

Data plan 2 GB $30

Thethering Plan $20 includes 2 GB extra data

TOTAL $90

USB dobgle Share Everything plan with 4 GB data $50.

I currently pay less than $50 now - which is the reason I've kept the service for backup. Even combining what I pay for Verizon and the other plan with unlimited talk, text, and data is less that $90. I've never tested the "unlimited" data limits of the prepaid to see if it gets throttled after using 2g or 4g or used as a hotspot since wifi is available most places for my laptops - but I've never been much of a data hog anyway. In addition - Verizon does have better coverage in some areas than the prepaid service - like when i'm out on the lakes - and I'd like to keep a limited minute call plan to be able to make calls if an emergancy when I'm miles from shore.

unfortunately my question continues ................ basic phones with tethering capabilities?

It is possible to tether to blutooth but, for a basic phone it is NOT possible to create a Mobile Hotspot.
