Why are we accumulating a gigabyte per day?

Our data usage for the first 5 days of our billing cycle exceeds 5 gigabytes. During this time we have been traveling and our phones show about 1 gigabyte of usage and we have hardly used our computer. Our normal usage is usually less than 10 gigabytes for a month.

Why are we accumulating a gigabyte per day?

JOAOST16, we hope that everything is going well during your travels thus far. We know how important it is to stay connected, especially if you're away from home, and we definitely want to help you figure out exactly what's going on with the usage. So far, it sounds like you're taking the right steps by keeping track of your usage via My Verizon. We would recommend checking out our Data Utilization tool (http://vz.to/2tsmCjn) to help get a detailed breakdown for everyone's usage.

You've mentioned that you've been checking the data on your phones as well. Why this is always helpful and a recommended guide, please note that your phone's settings may be different from your account. For example, if your cycle starts over from September 1 - September 30, your phone's cycle may be set to August 15 - September 14, which will create a discrepancy. Can you tell us the make/model of your phones and what steps you're taking to view the usage?

Using My Verizon, you can get a break down of every device on your plan's data usage. I'd recommend you narrow the hunt by finding which device Verizon says is using all the data. It sounds like you've already begun that search by checking the phones, but then you mention a computer. So perhaps you have another device on the account. My Verizon will help you narrow it down.

There are also some programs you can install to the computer that will meter or list programs on the computer and the amount of data used by each. This will help to lock down the programs that are using the data connection.

Also just leave the computer off when not in use.

Hope this helps Smiley Happy

If the computer runs Windows 8 or newer, Microsoft built these features, including the option to set a connection as metered, into the operating system. So most likely, third party software won't be needed either.
