Let me add here that the obvious answer is there are NO cell phone towers in the area, which is surprising given the population in the Northern Virgina metro D.C. area! In fact, there is a Verizon owned building that looks like it houses computer servers right at the end of my block [removed] -- Hey Verizon - use your existing infrastructure to improve cell service in the entire area and build a cell site on top of this building!

We always want to have you covered with our service, jisaacson9. We are here to help. We see that we have many towers in Alexandria.
What specific zip code are you having an issue at? Please tell us what service issue you are experiencing: an issue with calls, text, data or not getting a signal at all?

Hi Steven -
Interesting that you see "many towers". I am looking at a website that
shows cell phone towers and it looks like there are no Verizon towers in my
neighborhood. Zip code is 22301. I only see towers in the surrounding area
a couple of miles away, but clearly there are too many buildings and other
structures in the way.
The biggest issue is with dropping calls. The only way we are able to make
calls 'ever' is to be connected to WiFi. I can walk around outside my house
and in my neighborhood and we get 1-2 bars at best. Inside my house my
family, neighbors, and friends often have no cell signal at all. I called
Verizon about this 2 years ago when we moved into the area - surprised that
service was this poor - and nothing has been done.
Here is a screen shot of Verizon towers listed on cellmapper.net -- not
sure how accurate it is but you can see the huge hole where I live in "Del
Ray":
Here is a picture/map of a Verizon server building -- put a mini cell tower
on top of this - you guys own the building so why not?
If you could get more towers installed and boost the signal in this area
you would be the most amazing tech and customer service rep in the world.
Thanks,
Josh

Hi -
Any updates here? My neighbors and I are looking to see what the new AT&T
merger will bring for cell phone plans.. maybe after being a verizon
customer since the mid 90's I will switch.

Thank you so much for the details provided, Josh. It's concerning to read that you are having issues with service in your area. You mentioned dropped calls and not having service at all in some occasions. This is certainly not the experience we want you to have. Upon review of the zip code provided earlier, we don't see any outages or service issues reported for this area. We'd like to take a closer look into this and do some troubleshooting to help you get this situation with service resolved. Have you done any troubleshooting? If so, what have you done? Monica_VZW

Monica,
Unfortunately, most people in my area with Verizon can’t use their phones inside buildings or around the neighborhood without being on WiFi. This has been a problem since we moved here 3 years ago. The only reason people aren’t reporting service issues is because they use WiFi calling. Without the WiFi I never get more than 2 bars and calls are constantly dropped.
The bottom line issue is there are not enough cell towers in this zip code and there are buildings and trees blocking the signal. A Verizon technician told me this. I’ve asked Verizon to look into this in the past, to no avail. Could you request a mini tower be installed nearby? The corner of Mount Vernon Ave and Alexandria Ave would be a great spot. What other solution could you provide?
Thanks,
Joan

jisaacson9,
It's certainly understandable to want a cell site to be installed near your home. Keep in mind that proximity does not necessarily equate to better coverage.
Verizon Wireless radio frequency (RF) engineers and system performance engineers regularly evaluate network coverage and performance to identify locations that may require additional coverage. Based on their analysis and recommendations, cell site construction or other improvements are then planned and budgeted accordingly. Verizon Wireless' specific network expansion plans, locations and timetables are considered proprietary and confidential.
If you or someone you know is a tower owner/landlord, this link provides information and instructions to become a Verizon cell site: http://spr.ly/6583DY4o9
In the meantime, as far as other solutions are concerned, we can troubleshoot your device to make sure it is not any type of error in that sense. You previously stated that the "biggest issue" is with dropping calls. How is your data/LTE experience? HD voice, which enables you for Wi-Fi calling, also enables you for Voice Over LTE (or VoLTE), which is a popular solution for many people who are experiencing difficulty with 3G voice networks. You can learn more about this by visiting this link: http://spr.ly/6584DY4oi Depending on your device make and model, there are links to Android, iOS and Windows formats.
Is this information helpful? What other kind of questions do you have?

Colin,
Thanks for the information. While proximity to a cell site may not
correlate with better coverage, I can tell you that coverage in my house
and around my neighborhood (2-3 block radius) is really bad, but if I go
about a mile away to where I can visibly see a cell site the signal
strength goes from “no service” or 1-2 bars to full bars. This is not just
for my phone but for anyone who has Verizon as a provider in this area.
With 1-2 bars our calls are constantly dropping. We need at least 3 to be
reliable.
I understand the plans for new construction are proprietary to Verizon. I
don’t know any tower owners - I wish I did. I’d be happy to have you
install a mini site on top of my house if that was a possibility!
Please do whatever you can to troubleshoot the issue, but note that this is
not device specific. Anyone with Verizon has these issues in my house and
around the neighborhood. The only way people can make calls is through WiFi
and that is unacceptable. If there was an emergency and power goes out or
we have internet issues we wouldn’t be able to make a call.
Thanks,
Josh
