Re: Why is there a separate charge for Corporate email when I pay for a specific amount of data?  Why does Verizon care how I use the data I paid for?

My theory given Bizzareone's explanation is that while it is similar to how you might use Verizon Messages+ to sync your messages to another device you own that the difference is that Verizon is using another companies services to manage and sync a much larger number of devices so that all people and devices are on the same page.  I would also suspect that there is a lot of data being synced given the number of users and that between using another company's technology and using Verizon's own network, there may be extra costs involved to provide that service.  But, that's just my theory.

Good Mobile charges Verizon, so Verizon charges you for said service.

And i only log into these forums while at work.

So we use Good Mobile to sync with our exchange environment.  Good provides a secure environment to host our email on mobile devices.  Essentially no different than using an exchange server and setting up a pop email account, except that it's secured on the local device.  My company pays licensing fees, per seat, to good for the use of this app.  As well as the server side setup that we host and administration.

I appreciate all the responses but none of them make sense to me...and more importantly none of them are official Verizon responses.  I do appreciate the perspectives from all of you...so please continue.  I would still like a response from Verizon.

I don't buy the "this creates more traffic therefore Verizon needs to charge more" argument because that should be what verizon wants.  Don't they make more money if I go over my data allotment?

Still confused and looking for answers.  Verizon has been silent in this thread which also makes me believe they don't have a good answer.

I'd think this should be an easy explanation as to why Verizon charges us for this app...but it's been crickets from them. Anyone know of someone at Verizon they can ask?

Good Mobile Messaging is a 3rd party service that goes through Verizon. That 3rd party charges Verizon so then Verizon charges the customer.

SO why when user is at home on wifi, Good works?  No payment is needed to the cable co?   I have had our IS people explain how we are set up.   Other than being a data pipe, the Internet provider is doing no other service in our setup.  and Good works for me (us) with no Good $15 fee.

Thanks Weth.  Excellent catch!  I have good on my wifi only tablet and it works fine.  Also I know Sprint did not charge for the use of Good.  And some people are not charged for the use of good.

So again, the only thing I see Verizon doing is using data to send the messages to me...which I pay for.

So now...how can I get my $15 dollars a month back!?!?

Unsubscribe from the service?  And, why do you have to pay for the service if your work requires it?

If I unsubscribe from the service Verizon blocks me from being able to use Good.

My work doesn't require email on our personal devices...I want it on my device so I can be more productive.  It's besides the point, but I'm reimbursed for my phone costs through my work.  It's about principle.

My team cuts huge checks to Good for use of their app, as well as on going maintenance and support from them.  Which is why I don't understand the $15 dollar charge from Verizon.  I'd like to be able to provide a concise and reasonable response to my team when they ask why they have to pay Verizon to use Good.

So if you don't like my honest answer, hows this...Some services and features (IE unlimited data, 50GB verizon cloud) you have to pay for as the provider sees fit.

How is "Verizon pays a licensing fee to Good in order to offer their service and as a result, passes that cost off to the consumer" not a concise and reasonable response to your team?

I am sure your company does not share their billing practices in more depth than the cost to the consumer(i.e. how they arrive at those costs) as those practices include proprietary information. I would not expect more from Verizon.
