Will I have coverage in Alaska this summer? Are there any extra charges for service there.

Also I read something about being sure to not use service off the tower on the cruise ship when it is stopped in ports.  How do I know I'm getting my service off the port cities' towers rather than the ship's towers?

LZCOR, it sounds like you have some exciting travel plans. The good news is, we do include Alaska in almost all of our plans. You may view coverage availability for Alaska at https://www.verizonwireless.com/featured/better-matters/?map=4glte#maps. Which plan do you have? With reference to the cruise towers, you will find that their signal is very general to the ship and port area. Once you leave that area for an excursion you will see our network signal versus the ship signal, on the top of your device. I hope this is beneficial.

We just got back Friday from an Alaskan cruise. Verizon has cellular service in the larger cities of Alaska. We went to Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway. Verizon coverage would usually begin a few miles out from the shore. You can tell the difference because Verizon's name will be listed for service. The ship that we were on had their service marked as "Cellular At Sea". Of course you need to keep in mind that the mountains will make reception a little difficult in some locations also.

Also, I had my phone on international roam and was seeing "Rogers Cellular" in Victoria British Columbia. It worked fine also.

Your plan may differ. I have Beyond Unlimited so when my phone showed Verizon service it was fine.
