We cancelled our service a few days ago. We have been out of contract since November. Plan cycle ended yesterday. When will the devices be released from verizon?

Well first you have to have an active account number in order to port out. If you canceled service as you stated you should have done it prior to the bill closing date a day or so earlier, not after that date or you will be paying for an additional month.
If you did not port your number out then you would still have to call verizon wireless to cancel your service 800-922-0204
But as I said above you may have service through the next bill closing date. Verizon does not prorate.
