early edge upgrade and cash only

Verizon says my account is cash only because of an old account under my name that is marked cash only.  That account has a $0 balance.  My current account is in good standing and meets all the prerequisites for the early edge upgrade.  I've talked to customer care, financial services, and tech support; no one can change the status of the old account because their system "crashes" when they try to fix it.  Has anyone else had a similar issue?
