There are some good offers now for a free smartphone or greatly reduced monthly fee for adding a new line. I'm wondering if I can add a new line to take advantage of the deal and then just drop my old one. I know I'd lose my number unless I port it to something else, but it would be worth it to me. Just curious if that would work or if I'll just get hit with other fees then.
I've been with verizon for a long time and it's too bad that all the best deals are for new customers and lines, and we just don't need an additional line in our family.
It's less a new customer issue and more it's intended for *new lines*. If I were a new customer and say a month later one of these deals come up, I'd be in the same boat as someone who has been with Verizon since the late 80's.
If an existing customer had a situation where they were adding their kid etc, then that promo is perfect to offset the cost of the phone. People need to stop being hung up on new customers and be honest they are trying to beat the system for a deal.
