calling my wife's number with or without area code and with or without a preceding 1 gets "announcement 9 switch four zero dash 6" reminding you to use the area code when roaming.
it happens with both phones in the same room or calling from out of state.
the 408 area code requires a 1 before the area code even for local calls within the area code because the expansion area code is physically interspersed among existing 408s.
