I have created a "Keepers" folder for emails that I need to retain, mainly purchases, warranties, etc. This folder is apparently stored at the server, but I would like to copy it to my external backup drive for safekeeping. How can I best do that?

Good question See this post for suggestions http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-net-Email/How-do-I-archive-my-verizon-email-folders-into-zip-fo...
Bottom line you can not do it directly fron the webmail interface.
One work around it to open an individual email and if you run windows - print to file. This will create a file with extension .xps that can be saved wherever you select.
If you have a copy of outook; it is very easy to setup and use for archiving your saved mails.
