Blocked POP 3 and webaddress issue?

Recently a Verizon tech had to come and reset something with our box outside the home and now my POP 3 email and associated website aren o longer accessible through my home network.

The webaddress is www.cmas-md.org (IP: 67.225.166.240)

Mail server in and out is mail.cmas-md.org

I tried turning off the computer firewall and the router firewall and stil could not access the site or email. I also verified that the ports were being allowed through the router, 80, 25,995.

I am unable to ping the above site the request times out. A trace route gets to about 11 hops then fails. I can ping other sites and browse the internet without an issue, just not to the above site. I recently contacted fios support and they said it is the actual website or their server. I know this cannot be true because I can access the site and my email from computers on other networks. I tried multiple browsers and they fail as well. If I enable the turbo feature in Opera browser I can access the CMAS site but the email always gives an error that it can not conenct to the mail server. I am at work now and can access everything fine without issue. I am in Baltimore, Maryland and was wondering if anyone could test the site, ping/trace route, that is using FIOS and let me know if there is an issue for them as well.

Thanks,

No issues here from Germantown Maryland. Here is my route. POP3 should be fine, but the port 25 to their SMTP server is probably blocked.

As prisaz says port 25 will be blocked if you are attempting to use the outbound mail server at the site.  You can use port 25 or 587 if you use the mail server at

outgoing.verizon.net

for your outbound mail, which is the way you're actually meant to set it up.

I just found the info from verizon about the blcoking of port 25. I will make changes to that when I get home. Thanks for the trace route info. I will test mine again. I still cn't see what woudl be blocking me from that site.  I tried to flush the DNS, winsock, and renew my IP al lfaild to resolve the issue. I wil lcontinue to update from my end.

Post your tracert when you get home.  maybe it's possible to work out the issue from that.

if making it to hop 12 and timing out.. and only beig a problem on your Verizon internet connection....  and it cooinciding with a field tech being out at the prem....

More than likely, your Verizon WAN IP changed

and the email host/provider has that IP or a range of IPs that has your IP included in it, BLOCKED/BLACKLISTED

If you can contact the email host/provider and hopefully get to somone that knows their stuff/has the right access

you can also TRY to have Verizon Tech support break the DHCP lease, and HOPE that you get a different WAN IP that does not have this issue... but there is no gaurantee that you will actually get a different IP... and if the issue is that the email host/provider has a block of IPs... and you actually get a diff IP, but in the same block... you would be in the same boat...

Best o Luck

it will self heal on it's own "eventually"

you can surf immediately, I bet, if you use a web proxy.   like greensurf.info  (you go there and surf through their proxy)

if that is succesful then you know it's the blacklisted or blocked ip scenario, and only the web site or admin of that website can update their bogon filters to allow you access.     you would probably email them for that.

how long till it fixes itself? that seems to make little sense to me. Yes I can access the site via a proxy bypass but there is no proxy in place on my network. There has to be another way to get access sooner then a unknown time.  I change my outgoing email port but until the communication can be made with the regular website i can not receive or send mail.

refer to mine and Hub's previous posts for info on how to work around it and/or try and resolve sooner....

he was just letting you know, that if you did nothing.. it will EVENTUALLY fix itsself

if you want to be proactive... try the other suggestions we provided
