Verizon has notified me to change my incoming and outgoing e-mail settings to the following: Server Current Settings Required Settings POP3 incoming.verizon.net pop.verizon.net SMTP outgoing.verizon.net smtp.verizon.net I made these change and could no longer receive or send e-mail. I am running an older version of Outlook 2003 (SP3) on Windows XP. Has anyone else had this problem?

Works fine. But many others have made mistakes that can cause problems. Make sure you have SSL set on both servers and make sure you have password in the clear set (authenticated password does not work). They push IHA solutions which don't include 2003 anymore, but still have a page http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/fiosinternet/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/...

Not having SSL checked for both incoming and outgoing was the problem. thanks!

I also updated email inbound and outbound server setting on 4 accounts (2 IDs for me & 2 IDs for my wife). Now we can hardly send any mail out. We use Thunderbird for our mail. Typical message states "smtp.verizon.net failed"
