I am using the stock email client on the Kindle Fire and while I can easily read messages in my Inbox, no matter what I try, following the suggestions in the Verizon email setup tutorials, I can not send outgoing mail. my ssername, password, SSL Always, incoming.verizon.net, login is plain and port is 995. That works for getting mail into the device. What does not work is outgoing.verizon.net, port 465, SSL always, require sign in;yes, plain login username and pasword. Client can never work. What am I missing here?

A person who had a similar problem using Comcast had answers posted
Apparently related to needing the username@verizon.net in some places and username only at others.

Many people have been frustrated by this, including me: can receive email but not send with Verizon email addresses. Amazon and Verizon were not much help and I found nothing in these forums that worked for me either.
But I finally got it to work on my new Fire HD. Hopefully this will work for you too.
Set up you account this way or make changes to your your (non-sending) account settings:
settings>Applications>E-mail, Contacts, Calendars
chose your email account, then go to
server settings>
Incoming settings
PASSWORD
(your password)
POP3 SERVER
incoming.verizon.net
SECURITY TYPE
SSL/TLS (accept all certificates)
PORT
995
Outgoing settings
SMTP server
outgoing.verizon.net
SECURITY TYPE
SSL/TLS (accept all certificates)
PORT
465
check require log-in
USERNAME
youremail@verizon.net
PASSWORD

Thanks, but I did everything exactly as you indicated and still I cannot set up my email. I called Verizon tech support and they were useless.

Paulyryb,
Were you able to sync the Verizon calendar function to your Kindle Fire? If so, how? I can't seem to get it to work.

Still doesn't work on my Kindle HD. I tried all recommended settings on the setup blog and still a no go. The Incoming ports of 995 and 110 along with the outgoing ports of 465 and 25 and I still get a E-Mail address or Password incorrect error message.

Make sure to stick with SSL and the port 995 for pop server and 465 for smtp server. Indicate password required and CLEAR password (not authenticated password).

Hi, I set up mykindle fire and it only sends out e-mails when I turn it on.
My outgoing server settings are:
SMTP server = smtp.verizon.net
Security type = SSL (always)
Port = 465
[Checked] Require Sign-in
Authentication type = Automatic
Username = name@verizon.net
Password = ************
If I create an outgoing message it will not send it unless i turn-off the kindle and turn it back on. Odd.
It was working just fine prior to updating to SSL and port 465. I have try various Authentication types and username with and without the @verizon.net
Thank you in advance.

Not sure what are your authentication types with the kindle. You want password to be normal clear text and authentication to always be required. Usually USERID is without @verizon.net, although some devices require it but strip it when actually communicating with your ISP.
ps: Checking an old thread I see that Kindle users, at least at that time had to make sure at first to set up the userid as just userid, and then go back to the send(smtp) and change it to userid@verizon.net. Apparently its needed on that device or on Verizon's server. I haven't checked the RFC's in years on what the rules are, and they have been changing in attempts to make mail a little more secure. SMTP itself remains essentially unverifyable.
