I'm a Verizon DSL customer with a Versalink 7500.
If I set the Firewall security setting to anything above Minimum, Outlook Express fails with the following:
The connection to the server has failed.
Account: 'verizon email', Server: 'pop.verizon.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Suggestions?

Change Outlook Express settings from Secure (SSL) to "normal" or "clear text" or whatever similar term Outlook Express uses.

That does not work.
Unchecking the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" box produces:
The connection to the server has failed.
Account: 'Verizon Email', Server: 'pop.verizon.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

It changed the port from 995 to 110.
I'm not familiar with Outlook Express, but there are often two settings.
- "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" Should be yes.
- A password authentication setting. This should be set to not secure. Terms vary.
If that doesn't help post a screen shot of the settings and we will be better able to identify the problem.

I didn't notice that the port got changed. In any event, I changed it back to 995 and got a similar error.
I rechecked the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" box.
The "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box is already unchecked.
Here are my OE settings.

Here on some Outlook express settings that I have working. Note in particular that you must not check log on using Secure Password Authentication(i.e must use clear password), Some have had to click out outgoing mail server settings and not specify use the same settings as incoming server.
