I no longer want the Verizon provided email account, how do I delete it?

I have an email account provided by Verizon as a part of their service.  It has over 6,000 emails in it, because it has been hacked, and someone is using it to spam the world.  Best solution is to delete the email account, and not have one, as I do not need it.  How do I do that?

 I would recommend contacting Tech support and ask them to disable the account. I would also recommend running a full virus scan and Malware scan  on any computer you may have accessed the email account with. While it is still active I would change your password on the email account. BTW please do not send me any email replies Robot surprised

I don't believe that the main email account can be either removed, renamed, or "disabled," unless the account is closed and then a new account is opened in a new name.  A password change is about the only substantive change available.

Cannot be done, as stated in other posts in this thread.  Here are a few ideas and questions:

Is this account somehow affiliated with Yahoo?  If so, there are well know issues with hacking Yahoo accounts.  I'd separate or unlink them, and you can search these forums for methods to do so.

Change the password as recommended by Jose.  Do it now and choose a bullet-proof password.

Empty your email folders.  There are methods to delete even large numbers of messages quickly, so search the forums to find the one you like.  You definitely do not have to delete messages individually.

You state the account has been "hacked" to send mail.  If so, there is no obvious relationship between a "hacked" account, and your account having thousands of received messages.  Look into who is actually sending all these messages for clues.  More detail is required before anyone can make a helpful comment.

Consider software such as Mailwasher to monitor your email accounts and reduce spam.
