Important Changes to your Verizon Email Account

Is there something you forgot to include in your message?  When I followed the link in your e-mail, and used the In-Home Assistant, when the app completed, I was locked out of my e-mail account using Outlook 2007.  I then used your "custom instructions" to reconfigure my Outlook 2007 account, with the same result.  I finally got my account working again by going in and selecting "use defaults" in the Advanced tab.

Have you not yet made the changes you are announcing?  If so, you should indicate that in the message.  If you have made the changes, you instructions don't work.

Didn't work for me either.  So, I looked at my Firewall and allowed access to the two new ports, and voila, it works.

Outlook 2010.

It would certainly be helpful if Verizon gave detailed instructions on changing the e-mail settings for outlook express for us not too computer savvy folks. I don't dare to change the settings without instructions. The last time I lost my e-mail it took a week to fix the problem.

How did you access your firewall settings specific to the email?

I use Norton 360 and it gave me no warning.  Further, I do not want to mess with the firewall without Verizon giving instructions.

As I posted earlier, my old port settings work.  If it stops working I will burn up the land line to Verizon.

I use outlook 2010 but my outgoing is 587 and am having no problems whatsoever  with that I tried to change to 465 and got error message so went back to 587 as outgoing  -  where if firewall did you find the rule to allow access to the new ports or did you make a new rule just wondering

I'm same as you - Outlook 2010, outgoing was set to 587, incoming to 110.  Once I changed to Verizon's recommended settings, the test email wouldn't go through.  So I changed things back to the way they were.  I don't like the idea of messing with my firewall; unless somebody can provide some step-by-step directions?  I'm using Kapersky, plus Windows.

How do you allow access to the two new ports?

What about Windows Live mail? Are we supposed to use the same new settings? If so, they don't work.

Just a friendly reminder, this is a forum where users help other users.

Mr Verizon Moderator:

Your entreaty that the forum is to help other Verizon users is NOT helpful.

My contribution is to change my incoming and outgoing servers back to 110 and 25 for my OUTLOOK 2003.

The Verizon web site for Outlook 2003 telling me to use incoming and outgoing of 995 and 465 does NOT work.

Also the selection "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" does not appear on my settings.  All I see is to select "ENCRYPTED" and I am sure that is not correct.

This is a peer to peer support forum. If none of your fellow users can assist with your problem, and you need help from Verizon, you must contact them directly through one of the options on this page:

I use a program called MailWasher Pro. It has the new settings and connects just fine. Outlook 2007 will not connect with the new setting and I must revert to the defaults in order to get mail. Something is still not right with the instructions IMO. Gary

Moderator Elizabeth S:

I did that and will have to wait a business day for reply.  I hope to then post a good message from Verizon that solves my problem with the new settings.

I really do not want to go to Comcast mail if things get messed up.

To Moderator ElizabethS: You make a good point.

Now, can any of my peers help me penetrate the non-helpful Verizon instructions for protectiing myself from their latest "improvement." Aside from the fact that their advice is impenetrable even to those who are using the few email clients they address in their "guidance," they do not address Mac or Linux users. Their statement that I "need to modify your email settings to take advantage of enhanced security we now offer" sounds more like a threat than an offer. If I don't modify my settings, will my email continue to work or not?

I guess they've decided whatever suits their President and CEO should be good for everybody.

Let's face it, FIOS is technically way ahead of the competition but, there's more than that involved in selecting a service. Betamax lost out to VHS on price and simplicity. The FIOS TV guide is primitive. The Verizon web site is a good commercial but otherwise opaque. (I will grant that their telephone tech support is very good, if and when you can get there.) The second best joke in the world is their telephone advice that I can visit their web site to get help. Usually, I'm calling because my line is down.

Their second most recent "improvement" was to disable their FTP service for uploading a personal web sit. If Verizon keeps "improving" my service without helping me to ride with them, I'm gone at the end of this contract.

Now that I've vented---is there a peer out there that can fill the vacuum left by Verizon with regard to how to set ports on a vintage email client like Eudora for Mac? I've been using it for ten years or more and being told by my ISP that I must change sets my teeth on edge.

I wonder, ElizabethS, does this meet with your approval?

My Outlook 2003

still works with the "old" settings:

 ( 110, 25 )

                                                               image

Verizon did not say when the "new" settings would take effect...

Does anyone know when the original settings will no longer work?

I don't think the email is from verizon.  The 'to' name is 'made up'.  Check with the company before you click on the link!!!

Yes, this email was legitimate. On 1-4-2012 I wrote to them at phishing@verizon.com asking if it was. Here is the short answer I received from the same email address:

Thank you for writing.

This is a legitimate e-mail sent by Verizon denoting changes to the e-mails settings.

Sincerely,

when do these changes go into effect? I have previous incoming and outgoing ports configured, will both port configs work concurrently?
