I've run tests between verizon and another mail server I use. I can send to verizon [POP] but can't send from verizon [smtp]. This seems to happen from time-to-time and eventually gets fixed but is anybody else having a current problem? If not, I'll have to worry about it.
If I ping smtp.verizon.net I get
$ ping smtp.verizon.net
PING smtp.verizon.g03.yahoodns.net (74.6.140.42): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=0 ttl=54 time=8.066 ms
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=8.235 ms
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=2 ttl=54 time=7.785 ms
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=3 ttl=54 time=7.893 ms
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=4 ttl=54 time=8.068 ms
64 bytes from 74.6.140.42: icmp_seq=5 ttl=54 time=99.733 ms

so the connection seems to be there. I just can't seem to access it from my mailer.

This is some kind of issue with Verizon and Mac Mail. Somehow my password is getting changed. When I try to correct it Verizon claims it isn't valid. However, it works fine on my iPhone and eventually I am able to get it to work on my Mac as well, although I don't know for how long.
The reason I can't track down the exact problem is no other password than my Verizon smtp password is getting changed. This makes me think it is something Verizon is doing but I have no way to know that.
