Starting about 4:00 PM EDT I started getting errors when I tried to get emails from the verizon server. The outgoing emails seem to be getting through and I can receive emails on my other account. The error message says:

Server mail.verizon.net protocol POP3 Server Response -ERR [SYS/TMP] Service temporarily unavailable, Port 110, Secure (SSL): No, Server Error 0x800CCC90, Error Number 0x800CCC92.

When the request times out there is an error message requesting username and password, but entering them does not help. The popup message to repair email goes into Verizon In-Home Agent which is less than useless because it reports that it cannot obtain an internet connection and asks about resetting the wireless router. That's when it works at all. Sometimes the application just hangs up and I have to close the window.

If this IS a temporary interruption I wish there would be a web page where status could be seen and updated when service is restored.

I am having the same issue.  I just switched to FiOS on Friday, so I thought that it was just me having issues accessing my email at work, since I'd never done it before.  If you figure out what is going on, please post!

I'm also having the same problem.  My outlook is now asking for a password and my existing password to SMTP or POP3 is not working.

Forums did the same thing when they came back on line ... starting prompting for user information, but didn't recognize the valid credential.  A half hour or so later it finally started recognizing the user info.

 i lost E-mail this afternoon. I called and after much interacting with the Robot System, I heard that Verizon was experiencing problems. Is there a way to check out E-mail system status on-line?

This is the 2nd time this has happened in like 2-months.  Come on Verizon, we pay good money for your services.....get some servers that can handle the workload!

They should be posting what is going on online, but there is nothing I can find.  And when you get a tech, they don;t seem to want what might be helpful information and say they expect it to be resolved withing 48 hrs.  When I said that seems a bit ridiculous, the response is 'that is what our timeframe is for any issue" from the tech

The 48-hour thing is a stock answer from a helpdesk which means "the tech guys are too busy running around with a panic'd look on their faces to give us any information".   In other words, we don't know yet because the folks who could tell us are all busy trying to fix it rather than answering their phones when we call to try to get a status updates.

I do find it interesting however that there is a Verizon twitter (actually VzW support) feed and no one from Verizon has tweeted anything about the outage.   Numerous tweets trending from folks who are experiencing it however.

Me too. Wants password which results in another request. Servers appear to be out.

I finally was able to get so far as to recive a message back from Verizon Central when I attempted to log on:

   Maintenance Announcement


   We are currently working to enhance the performance of Verizon Central. Thank you for your patience

I'm near NYC - got same maintenance notice since 4:30 -- now almost 9 pm here.  Very frustrating -- have many messages I know need answering for a soccer club I work for

Disgraceful how hard Verizon makes it to figure out that the proboem is with them and not on our end. They hide the bad news from potential customers. paying a ton for Fios, at least when it crashes they should tell us....maybe through Comcast or something that works!

It's 9:13PM here in Maryland. My BlackBerry bitched at 8:30 that it needed a new password for my verizon account. Thought it was phissing. Checked my Outlook Express and same stuff. I tried to figure web mail out but no go.

This is the first time in my memory that my e-mail has been unavailable. Man we are sure tied up in all this electronic connectivity. We are sitting ducks for someone with malicious intents.
