I followed the directions for updating my Outlook settings for the AOL migration that were posted on the AOL site for Verizon users. It said to just change my password. That resulted in a server not recognized message. Creating a new email profile results in the same error message. Verizon says they cannot help me and AOL wants me to pay for the answer. Has anyone else had this problem? Everything in my family and work is synced through Outlook. I don't want to use the browser! Thanks all!

Something must have been wrong with my service. Out of the blue it started working tonight without making any changes to the settings. Very weird.
Thanks!

@Tulipwood wrote:After endless back and forth I believe I have solved this problem. You have to use the web to log onto AOL, then go to 'Account Security' and turn off 'Two-step verification' and turn on 'Allow apps that use less secure sign in.' This will allow you to set up your email account in Outlook.
This has been documented before. Some searches "might" have found it for you. Its not clearly documented in the AOL info for Verizon users.

Note you may need to use a generated App Password instead of your regular email password (that's the only thing that worked for me with Thunderbird.) Log into AOL mail from a browser, go to Options | Account Info | Account Security, and choose Manage App Passwords, generate a password and use that when configuring your client. This was the case for me even when I did not have 2-factor auth turned on.

I have been able to send and recieve my verizon.net email until yesterday via AOL and outlook on my desktop and via gmail on my cellphone. I still recieve all my emails but as of mid-day yesterday I lost the ability to send through Outlook and Gmail. I can still send via AOL.
Anyone experience the same and are their fixes.

Hi Everyone;
it seems pretty weird, but I started having issues last week by not receiving mail on my outlook after starting the application. So everytime I actually login into the webmail or AOL mail, after that I hit the send/received on the outlook at the messages start updating on the outlook application. is there an authentication feature that is not working?.

I am having the issue of not receiving all of my emails. Things worked fine until a couple weeks ago when I noticed that emails were loading slowly or I would have to reboot my phone before the emails would load. Now I do not receive all of my emails. Hit or miss. Happens on both PC and phone. I use Outlook 2010. I don't find either AOL or Verizon helpful in problem solving. Certainly thinking of leaving verizon.net.

Is anyone having the problem with Office 365 where the POP and SMTP settings are already entered in Outlook as yahoo.com? When I attempt to change the settings to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't; however, when I exit Outlook and go back in, the settings have reverted back to yahoo.com??? I dealt with Microsoft for over 3 hours and was told that Verizon and AOL are migrating to yahoo; hence, the pre-filled in settings based on my verizon.net account. I sent numerous emails to AOL with screen shots and got no help from them. Anyone? Thanks!
