Has anyone been successful in changing to the new POP3/SMTP settings using Pegasus Mail?
Works more-or-less fine using old settings, but those will be disabled shortly...

I'm not familiar with that client. Could you post a screenshot of the settings screen(s)? That would help with figuring out what needs to be changed.

Having trouble with Pegasus too (version 4.63). It will receive with the new settings, but will not transmit. I get "a network error occurred during connection to the host" message.
Same problem in Outlook Express 6. Tried the troubleshooter (manually), thinking I could translate the settings to Pegasus. Yes, but no. Created a new mail account in Outlook, which does work both ways. As for Pegasus, the servers are the same, the ports are the same, and "direct SSL connect" is checked on both the sending and receiving security tabs. All to no avail.
Sign me thoroughly confused!

Now receives, but I can't get it to send. (I had to monkey around with SSL settings, and eventually had to "Disable certificate validation" to get it that far...
This is on a sub-account (main account is accessed only on the web)...

I downloaded Pegasus Mail to play around with it. I'm having some trouble getting it to connect, too. I'll see what I come up with.

Alright, I'm offically stumped. I know what the settings are supposed to be, and they work in every other POP3 client I've installed on my PC. (Which is quite a few, actually, since I tend to install the free ones to get screenshots of the settings.)
The same settings do not connect in Pegasus Mail:
"A network error occurred during connection to the host."
I've poked it every way I can think of, but it still fails immediately with that error message. It doesn't even try to connect. Very strange.
Maybe someone else will come along that is more familiar with Pegasus Mail... I'm sorry I can't help on this one.

Thanks -- I don't feel so bad now!
I thought I was pretty good at following directions, and it was driving me nuts.

post portions of your ini file. I believe its mercury.ini. It's not recommended to change by hand but if you can't find the spots in the menus, you can. Remove any personal info from the file before posting.
Things to check are ports servers name ssl active, authentication required, and port numbers.

Spent an hour or so on this. Looking at wpm files after attempts to connect to SMTP looks like it is having problems handle the SSL handshake. In fact this looks like an error that hit lots of clients and sites a couple years ago. In that the code is receiving the ssl keys in two or more packets and doesn't realize it and doesn't put the values together. I think its an erro in the Pegasus code. Not sure if the Pegasus support (mostly just the author) would be willing to assist. Surprised to see this only happening on SMTP and not also on POP.

Here is my PMAIL.INI FIle (not Mercury). The POP3 and SMTP settings with the 0's at the end are the "new" settings. Those with the 1's at the end are the non SSL variety.

Thanks for replying. The SMTP*.pnd and POP*.pnd have more of the info if we wanted to just check your settings, however its LOOKING LIKE a Pegasus error. I Installed the latest and tested the other day and after turning on full diagnostic options the log file shows its not liking the negotiated key. As I mentioned in my earlier reply this reminds me of an error caused when to fix security problems with SSL they tended to send the key in multiple packets. Older code (e.g. the code used in Microsott Visual C++) didn't handle this right and needed to be updated with a patch.
I couldn't find anyone reporting this on Pegasus Forums, but someone who uses this regularly needs to try a get help from Pegasus support. I know they are a relatively small operation, and don't know how much they will help for free.

Working on that. Emailed someone on a Pegasus forum asking for tech support. No reply as yet.

My email to Pegasus "support" has gone undelivered. Help appears unlikely. Such being the case, what is a good email client to use with Windows 7? I absolutely do not want to use any type of web based email - Thank you Microsoft and Verizon.

Like TNS_2, I have both Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird installed. After quite a bit of experimentation I decided that I much preferred Windows Live Mail. Both are free, I suggest you install both and see which you like. And if you don't like either, then you should be able to find on the Internet a number of additional email clients to try.

Kudos to both of you. Installed Thunderbird (MoMail, I call it). Easy setup, working like a champ. Thanks again.
