I use Outlook to get to my Verizon email. On Wednesday 9/17/14, mail went down as I was unable to connect to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net. WebMail was also unavailable as I was unable to log in sucessfully.
On Friday 9/19/14, support told me "there was an outage and I should try again in 24 hours".
On Sunday 9/21/14, I was able to get to WebMail, but I am still unable to connect via Outlook...
Any help would be appreciated!

I've been fed lots of lines, but still have the same problem. Quickly, I used to have FiOS service, but moved to a place where Verizon is not offered as an ISP. However, I kept my Verizon email I've had for 17 years. Now when I call for help, I have no DSL or FiOS account, so technically, I don't exist and they can't check to see if I'm part of an outage or not...
I did get a tech who tried to help yesterday. After 1.5 hours, she referred me to www.verizon.net/whitelist. Asked me to have my ISP fill out this form to allow my IP address to be added to the list of allowed addresses. I'll let you know if it works!

I'm wondering if anybody knows where on Verizon's Support site this problem is documented so others will be able to see it's a known issue. I continue to be stumped whenever I have a problem as to where to look for known issues to avoid wasting time trying to resolve problems.

I have the exact same situation--verizon email because I moved to a place verizon didn't service, so have Time Warner for DSL. I had a very helpful verizon web chat tech on Wednesday work really hard for me--screen sharing, the whole bit, even called me back because I needed to restart the computer so we lost the connection (though yes, then it was really hard to understand her). She tried everything, got other people involved, and said they hoped the problem would be resolved in 24 hours.
Like other here, I don't understand why Verizon a) doesn't update their techs to this problem, because it sounds like we all start from scratch every time we call to get an update and b) doesn't reach out to customers or create a site with posts about what they're doing to address and timing.

Around 9/15 my computer based Outlook email continued to work on my phone and only received incoming emails. Outgoing emails appeared in my Sent folder, but in fact never left the computer. I got an error message that did not help after the message appeared in my Sent folder. I found my settings for the email's incoming and outgoing servers were out of date. They were named incoming and outgoing. Apparently the server names, port numbers and other variables have been changed for a very long time. I can't tell why incoming continued to work while sent stopped suddenly. After finding all the required settings (this took some work), I am back in business except for one issue. If I send message in plain text all is well, if I use Rich Text it adds a win.dat file. This used to happen if I used Rich Text with an attachment and the attachment was converted into an unreadable win.dat file.
P.S. Remember your main account and subaccount may have different passwords.

In Calif. I have had the same problem in Webmail & Apple Mail (except for 1 day & this morning). In Webmail I was timed out in Safari, Chrome, & Firefox. In Mail I could not connect to the POP or SMTP server. Plus, I could not get a SIgn-in window at either My Verizon nor this site. I verified my nerwork connection was OK in Apple Network Diagnostics. I hope the problem has been resolved.

I have had this problem since 9/17.
First it was outlook and my phone. Then the phone starting getting emails again but not outlook.
Called twice and they didn't seem to understand nor able to tell me anything except that it will be fixed.
Well its still not fixed. Like others here, I left Fios for another ISP and kept my email address which I pay for each year the past 2 years. Never had a problem till 9/17
Getting more frustrated by the day with this.

exact same issue and time frame
crystalizing the problem
at home:
using a laptop with firefox connected via time warner cable
i am unable to retrieve email
i am able to access webmail
at work:
same lap top, same software, same settings at work via verizon broad band
i am able to retrieve email
from home, cannot telnet to pop.verizon.net by dns or IP address using port 995.
ran tracert to pop.verizon.net and it times out after 11 hops at
80.ae1.SA3.LAX9.ALTER.net
the registrant for ALTER.net is... Verizon Business Global LLC
spent a half an hour on the phone with verizon tech support yesterday
they had no idea what the problem was
they basically said web mail works so it's not their problem
would encourage everyone to keep after verizon on this one

Agree we have to keep after verizon--it seems the only way they'll address is if we're sucking up too much of their techs' time. Workarounds are fine if you have access to another server/network/data usage, but my home computer can only access via my home internet. Webmail is fine for short-term, but all my correspondences, addresses, and history emails are on my apple mail.
Isn't verizon monitoring these posts? Do they have the slightest interest in acknowledging the problem? (Or saving their tech support from constantembarrassment--some of whom have worked really hard to help and been as frustrated as we are, it seems from a few posts).
Communication company tech services get such bad rap--I've always been a defender of verizon (I hated having to switch DSL providers, but they weren't in my area when I moved) because I've had such a good experience. That will change--fiercely--if this doesn't get resolved.

It's now been 21 days since I've been able to connect to my mail via Outlook and still have the exact same problem... Through the process of elimination, it seems that the problem truly is that Verizon is not allowing ISP's (other than Verizon) to access their POP servers. I've tried the "whitelist", but that is really for Verizon accepting mail from the outside.
Finally got to the network admin for my ISP and he said the connection is being refused. This individual also outsources his skills to 4 other local ISP's and he is also unable to connect from any of them.
I guess this is the new standard and Verizon has left it's long time customers out in the cold...?

Nope not true.
But they were agressively being attacked, by several locations, probably mostly from overseas. Some valid isp's may currently be being blocked.
First make sure you are using the correct server names, ports, etc, as access from outside their network for older url's, ports, etc., is probably now completely blocked. http://verizon.com/emailsettings

We are contacting Verizon. We're all contacting verizon. But no one seems to be getting anywhere, and every time I contact verizon, I have to start over with a new person who seems to have no idea that this has been going on for 3 WEEKS.
I've seen a few techs respond to a few posts (this is by far not the only thread related to this issue)--why can't they reach out with updates? I'd be okay with waiting for a solution as long as I had some information and knew it was going to be addressed.

I can't find the post, but many people have made progress and Verizon did post some additional contact info for those having problems.

i have an android via verizon wireless
broadband is time warner cable
workaround for me was to disable wi-fi
since verizon is blocking time warner cable, but not verizon wireless
it worked fine accessing email via 4G
may not work for other wireless providers

I bought my domain name from Verizon, so I didn't lose my email address that I have had for 8 years. We cancelled verizon internet & went with shentel. I pay a fee to Verizon to maintain my email. This morning my email stopped working. I called verizon & was transferred to 5 departments & all of them 'accidentally' disconnected me while transferring. So problem is still not resolved. Their online help is also worthless.

I am in the situation as BudPalChief. No longer have FIOS, but retained my verizon.net account. No longer getting emails to my phone; unable to send emails. Work around to get emails to phone is to turn wifi off, go to email and refresh, then turn wifi back on. ISP is ATT UVerse. Settings on phone are correct. Verizon tech seem to say it is a FIOS issue, FIOS says it is a DSL issue, DSL says it is an Email issue; Email says that it is a Communication isse; communication says that it is a Wireless issue, and Wireless says it is a FIOS issus, and the circle begins agains. I have been on 3 separate chats for a total of over 5 hours, tech support 3 times for 4 hours, and still not resolved. I am able to get email via Webmail, but I need the emails to flow to my phone automaticaly as they had done 3 weeks ago. Verizon, will you please HELP?!!

I finally got help through one of the forums. I hadn't been able to receive my email at home on my wireless since Sept. 17 o my mac mail or my iphone but could get my mail on my iphone via LTE. My ISP was blacklisted for some reason. Whoever I was working with through the forum had my number whitelisted again. I did see somewhere in this thread about a form to have your ISP whitelisted. May be worth a try.

OK, maybe i am clueless, but WHY do I have to go to my ISP and get whitelisted? Also, how does one get whitelisted? A simple phone call to the ISP? A simple phone call to Verizon, kindly asking them to contact the ISP to be put on a whitelist? I'm lost over the process

I was really hopeful that that thread was finally a fix, but I tried both suggestions and got nowhere. I'm glad some people are getting this worked out, but there's still clearly a verizon-wide problem that is leaving many of us high and dry.

Who is your internet provider? Is it Time Warner?
