Outlook 2007 Authentication error 0x800ccc78

Outlook suddenly began getting authentication errors when trying to send/receive. I could sign into Verizon's Yahoo mail as well as directly into Yahoo mail, but when I specified the same ID and password in Outlook, it failed.    I tried every Verizon help procedure to set Outlook's account settings without any success. I finally called Verizon and their tech rep couldn't solve it and he put me in touch with MacAfee.  MacAfee had no luck and told me to get in touch with my PC manufacturer.  I thought something seemed to get out of sync with Verizon and Yahoo, so after hours of frustration I tried the following WITH SUCCESS.

Incoming mail server:   incoming.yahoo.verizon.net

Outgoing mail server:  outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
