For what its worth, I haven't noticed any uptick in spam's but you can reduce spam by following these tips.

  1. You should start reporting the spam with a spam button in the webmail client
  2. Forward spam emails that were not caught to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net
  3. Set your e-mail filter. An e-mail filter and spam blocking software are absolutely critical. Set these security measures to update automatically to ensure that you are protected from the latest threats.
  4. NEVER reply to spam. Replying to spam, even to "unsubscribe," could set you up for more spam.
  5. Protect your e-mail address and instant message ID. If you must post this information online, set up two identities, one for real use and one for online activities.
  6. Be wary of e-mail attachments. Change the settings on your e-mail program so that images and attachments are not opened automatically. Only open attachments from users known to you.
  7. Watch out for phishing scams. Don't click on links in e-mails or instant messages unless the sender is known to you. Instead, open a separate web browser and visit the site directly.
  8. Create smart and strong passwords. Use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  9. Never enter your personal information in a pop-up window. You may not be able to tell when a scammer has hijacked a seemingly legitimate site.
  10.  Don't fill out online surveys, or register for contests or fan clubs. These may be fronts for spammers trying to collect your e-mail address.

This is much better than my "Stop signing up for porn sites." response. Kudos to you. Smiley Very Happy

"Forward spam emails that were not caught to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net"

Ok - in order to send SPAM to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net    I have to click on the offensive mail.  Now I have opened it.  Therefore, I am doing exactly the wrong thing....and compounding the problem.

How can I forward it WITHOUT opening it?

  Thanks

Using Verizon's Webmail, and their Rick Interface or the "new version"  you can simply put a checkmark next to the offending email, and select actions and then forward.

I am using the new mail format.  Putting a check mark on the offending mail - then ACTIONS and then FORWARD - Still opens the mail.

Is not the correct way to NEVER OPEN Spam?

it opens the forwarded reply, not the actual email.  if you disabled html then you should be fine, but yes you have a 50/50 if html is enabled and you're opening the email.

the never never never, comes from opening attachments vs the actual email.  the attachments are definitely a never never never open.  the email if it's html has a potential for sending you a virus, but if you disable html emails then you won't run that risk,.

also it may be a confusion between opening and replying.  you should never reply to spam, that is bad.   But opening it has less risk unless its a situation as described above.   opening it to forward it should be ok.

I've managed this with a filter once or twice, but the catch is that you have to know something about the spam that's going to come in.

Something like:

If From contains fakespamdomain.com then automatically send notification to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net

or

If Subject contains Spamittyspam then automatically send notification to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net

The "send notification" option is actually a forward, and you never even see the spam message. If there's something your spam messages have in common, it's useful.

So you have to put a checkmark, disable html, hit forward, send to a specific address?  And I am supposed to take your word for it that even though it opens it to forward that that's ok?  I do not want to open spam email UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Forwarding the email to this spam email box accomplishes what?  Can I expect to not receive the email any more?  I presume whoever monitors that mailbox is not able to direct it to your spam folder.  And NO, I am not setting up a rule for each spam message or domain, which is usually .com anyway.  Don't tell me about spam emails coming from various addresses either because I am receiving many more spam emails since the "new and unimproved" upgrade and its from the same addresses.

What about having a spam filter that actually works?  Be able to mark something as spam when the email is closed and wa la you never see it again.  What a concept.

Ok, I am having the same problem.  My inbox is inundated with SPAM.  I know others have marked theses companies, it is amazing that they ever go to anyone.  I have set the filters, changed the HTML, sent the mail directly to the spam detector folder, and sent a forwarded spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net email.  Honestly, this is alot of work for the client to do.  This is the reason for the SPAM filter in the first place-so I don't have to be bothered.  To top things off, for every forward I send, I get a response reply from them.  Now my mailbox if full of them.  Everything I have sent to the SPAM detector folder doesn't filter or change the fact that I still get mail from these senders.  Does it even work?  Do I have to keep theses messages in the folder to have them detect?
