It seems that Verizon is blocking port 587 or smtpauth.earthlink.net A screenshot of my Mac Utilities indicates: “If you do not see "Open TCP Port: 25 smtp", your Internet Service Provider is blocking the SMTP ports needed to send email. Can anyone help to resolve this issue ? I have tried to contact Verizon but they do not seem to understand the issue.

They do block 25. 587 should not be blocked. Your message implies to me that you did not successfully switch to port 487 for smtp.

Using web-based Verizon email, Verizon.net will not SEND messages. It receives ok, saves drafts, makes contacts etc.

that is correct, 25 is blocked. 587 and all other alternate ports should be open.
