she calls Verizon support who has her sign up for support at $14.95 per month despite her already paying for antivirus every month....AND if you backout of the deal it costs $50 to cancel.
Now, she is so upset after 11/2 hours talking to support, her problem is not fixed.
My thoughts are that they are TAKING ADVANTAGE of this woman that knows little about computers.

Invite you friend to come and post here and describe what is happening and perhaps the members can offer some suggestions.
^^^^ More details would be helpful (such as the Operating system). In this case I would make sure only 1 antivirus or Malware program is running in real time. If the issue persists, remove all antivirus programs. Then install Microsoft Security Essentials, update it and run a full scan in safe mode. Afterwards try opening attachments again.
Too late .....she dropped Verizon due to the horendous mishandling by tech support personel. I see with reading your blog she is not the only dissatisfied customer.
Your billing for landline service include a $9....NINE DOLLAR CHARGE for the dial tone!! How absurd is that! Millions are paying for this "service" and have been for OVER FIFTY YEARS!
Also, your "fastest speed" internet speed is 10 times slower than some other counties supply for their people. Verizon has yet to refudiate this issue.
