Is there any advantage to using a verizon.net email address versus a yahoo.com, gmail.com, etc? I use Outlook 2010 for my email. I have been told that I am better off using Yahoo, Gmail, etc. because if I switch internet service providers I don't need to switch email addresses. Your thoughts?

@You get a poorly thought-out webmail interface and a spiffy @verizon.net address? All in all, I definitely recommend getting email service from an Email Provider, not your ISP that also happens to offer email. 😉

Personal opinion: avoid Yahoo. I have recently stopped using Yahoo mail because they generate more spam than any site I've seen.

I was wondering if I would get less spam using a verizon.net email address rather than Yahoo, Gmail, etc.

Gmail's spam filtering is the best I've found so far.

Since switching to Gmail, I have not had any spam. Don't know what it will be like long term, but so far I'm pleased. Also use Hotmail (now Outlook), it has occassionl spam.
Verizon mail may not have spam, but I'm not a fan of ISP sponsored email.
