When is Verizon going to start filtering out those spam emails that are ending with 4 or 5 numbers? Clicking on them to be sent to the SPAM folder OPENS them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't this action SEND the spammer that they have an active email address??

Nope.
Not sure if they acknowledge regular email in the webmail (couldn't find a setting to not acknowledge). Many clients have such settings.
They pretty much know its a valid email if its not bounced back as undeliverable. At least one antispam filter for clients used to do that.
