Verizon Web Mail

I am using Verizon Web Mail with multiple sub-accounts but noticed that web mail is not auto-refreshing and new emails are not appearing unless I manually refresh the inbox. I have tried using IE11 and Firefox both with the same results. I have searched on-line help. There was mention of a Preferences button but I do not have a Preferences button and I do not see any setting that would apply under settings. Thanks in advance for any insight. I am ready to switch over to Outlook or Windows Live Mail if I can't overcome this.
