Verizon email folders on iPhone

Why can't I see my Verizon email folders when I sync to my iPhone? I've heard this is not possible with Verizon's POP server.. Others say there is a way?

You can create folders on your iPhone and file mail in to them, but there is no way to sync the folders present on the Verizon server. POP3 access only works for the Inbox.

Verizon would need to implement IMAP in order for that functionality to work.

I've looked for a way to create a folder on my iPhone 5, v6.1 without success.  

How is this done.

you cannot add custom folders to POPaccounts in iOS Mail.

I have started to use GMAIL so I can accomplish that.  As one of the other posters indicated VZ would need to be using IMAP mail like GMAIL.
