Why won't Outlook 2013 allow me to set up a Verizon.net email account?

I got a new PC with Outlook 2013.   I've been trying to set up my Verizon email account on Outlook.  When i fill in the usual smtp/pop info it doesn't work.

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

I checked on the Verizon website and couldn't find any help.   It always worked easily with the older versions of Outlook.   Any advice?

thanks.

Check your advanced settings for the account. To use these ports, and not POP3 110 or SMTP 25. Also SSL

Try the following settings.  They work for me using Windows live mail.

Server information:

Incoming mail (POP3):  incoming.verizon.net

Outgoing mail (SMTP😞  outgoing.verizon.net

Server Port numbers:

Incoming mail (POP3):  995

Outgoing mail (SMTP😞  465

And of course the obvious:  verify and reenter your user name/password.

you have the wrong server names.

POP3 is incoming.verizon.net
SMTP is outgoing.verizon.net

Before you begin:

You'll need the following email settings:

  • Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP)smtp.verizon.net

  • Make sure SSL encryption is enabled for the incoming and outgoing mail server.
  • For more email and remote access configuration options see Verizon Online Email Settings

These setting do not help the problem much. The sending with SSL selected doesn't work period. Unchecking SSL allowes sending but way too slow.

What is going on with Verizon email?

No problems that I can see. My Verizon email, using Windows Live Mail, works just fine using SSL, have been using it for probably a year or more now. I did try the pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net settings for the servers a few minutes ago, would not work at all for me. I am successfully using incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net, have been for 7+ years.

I think you have something set up incorrectly, but without seeing your exact definitions it is difficult to know what the problem might be.

You've had office 2013 and Windows 8 for 7 years?  How'd you do that?  Office 2013 does not work with Windows 8.  You have to use work arounds.

Don't mix pop.verizon.net with outgoing.verizon. net

old servers (still work for now but will be discontinued some time in the future)

incoming.verizon.net

outgoing.verizon.net

new servers

pop.verizon.net

smtp.verizon.net

Those port settings do not work for me. I had to go back to the old port settings ,port 25 and port 110.

I spent several days trying to find out why my e-mail stopped working as it was working till I changed the ports as instructed. I was getting a password error stating that my password was wrong or not valid.

So what's going on here?I read quiet a few posts of people having problems with the new settings.

I wound up deleting the e-mail account in Windows Live e-mail and making a new account with the same e-mail name and let Windows Live do auto set up which set the ports at 25 and 110.

I'm a little Leary of going back to the new port settings as everything is working now. I know eventually I'll have to go to the new ports as they will phase out the old ones but I'll worry about that when it time to do that.

Possibly a problem with the SSL level being used.  I know in the past there have been some problems there, although I would hope that Windows 8 includes the fixes.

I assume you left your id off the screen capture for privacy reasons.  If not it may be the problem.

I know many people including some friends in my area, have it working.  I don't have windows 8 or outlook 2013.  I do know one of them had a problem when mixing the servers that did show a password error.

Yes. Many times over. In order to figure out your specific issue, though, we'll need to know what settings you are using and what error message you are getting. Screenshots are preferred.

The OP had the same problem and subsequent replies solved the problem.  I suggest you do one of two things:

1.  Go to the thread post that solved the OPs problem.

2.  Or follow somegirl's request and provide the screenshots, then she will be able to identify the specific issue that is causing the problem.

Provide the ones you used for POP.  IMAP is not supported by Verizon.  Edit out any Personal info such as email id and password.

Change all as stated by Verizon then make sure the "Authentication" on both the incoming and outgoing is checked even if it says so click on it then check it again in the menue.

Hope this helps. Had to figure this out on my own even after talking to a Verizon and Verizon wireless. What a waste of 45 minutes.
