THE NEW SERVERS DO NOT SUPPORT APOP. Use clear text instead.

Hello -
I have changed my settings for Windows Live Mail and I'm not receiving or sending email on my Verizon account.
I use Windows Live Mail on both a WIN7 notebook and a WIN8 notebook. The new settings do work with WLM.
- Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
- Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
- Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465
- The top line under the servers tab should read: "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server."
- Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked. (For POP & SMTP)
- Make sure "Log on using clear text authentication" is checked.
- For the outgoing mail server, "My server requires authentication" should be checked.
- Your Verizon Online user name is *****@verizon.net
- Your Verizon Online password
If you continue to have problems: Post a screenshot of your Live Mail settings. Seeing what your are will make it easier to identify the problem.

Hello Walt,
I'm still unable to send or receive mail on WLM. Here is the latest message I'm receiving.
Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon (msantell1) account. Windows Live Mail couldn't log on to the email server using authenticated POP (APOP). Contact your email provider and verify that it supports authenticated POP. To change this logon setting, in the folder list, right-click on the account name, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. In the Properties dialog, click the Servers tab and then under Incoming Mail Server, select a logon option.
Server: 'pop.verizon.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

these settings do not work from holiday inn in utica, ny
They do not work because Holiday Inn only provides web access, not the access required for POP3. Most hotels block all but ports 80 and 443 (http/https).
