Got an email today that sends me to a verizon website with the following instructions for pop and smtp changes. The problem I have is with the line under the Outgoing mail server settings that says "Use authentication". The only option in my Thunderbird email client is "Use Secure Authentication" in Outgoing Server settings. If I enable it, I get an error that says server doesn't use authentication. Am I misreading the instructions?
Configuring the application
Here are the settings to configure your mail application.
Incoming mail server settings
- POP server: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net
- Use SSL
- Port: 995
Outgoing mail server SMTP settings
- SMTP server: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
- Use SSL
- Port: 465
- Use authentication
- Account Name/Login Name: Your Verizon Yahoo! Mail ID which is the part of your address before @verizon.net - for example, jo.bloggs
- Address: Use the full address — for example,{edited for privacy}
- Password: Your Verizon Yahoo! Mail password

I see you are using the Yahoo version of Verizon webmail; I don't use that so my Thunderbird settings might not work on it, but here they are anyway:
Note that I blocked out my user name.
These definitions work just fine for me. But again, I don't use the Yahoo version of Verizon webmail. And my version of Thunderbird is 8.0.
Hope this helps.
