mozilla thunderbird on new 'puter rejecting my password

I recently purchased a new computer.  I was using mozilla thunderbird on my previous computer.  I liked it so I wanted to use it on the new one also.  I keep getting an error saying the "user name or password is wrong".  I can still receive and send email on my phone and through the web based browser, but I don't like using wither of those.  Also I have tried changing my password online, but I get an error saying "try again later".  Any suggestions before I call Verizon?

Thanks...

well, the reinstall(with a re-download) and using the same settings i had on the previous 'puter solved the issue.  i am thinking the initial download packet was fouled.   thanks for the help!

Search threads for ones on Thunderbird, as lots of us have it working.

Important things to check, correct server names and port numbers, SSL/TLS set, and authentication normal password

  • Make sure you are on a recent release of Thunderbird.  Mine says 17.0.7

image

Critical things

  • User name with @verizon.net
  • server type pop
  • server name pop.verizon.net port 995
  • security setttings SSL/TLS
  • Authentication Method Normal Password

For Outgoing server (SMTP)

Critical things here,

  • User name without @verizon.net
  • server name smtp.verizon.net port 465 (thunderbird does default to this port)
  • connection security SSL/TLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal password
