This message sometimes shows shortly after signing on and then closes the connection. Other times it does not and I can continue with my email. What causes this? It started within the last two weeks or so. How can it be stopped?

That occurs when there is a period of no activity. I don't know exactly how long, but it seems to be a matter of minutes. You can't stop it.
Also, many secure sites have that feature as a security mesure.

Using Google Chrome.
When I first sign in, I Choose "Keep me signed In"
Then later when I'm doing other things I ONLY MINIMIZE that Window
Later I "Refresh" that window and Choose "Continue" an option presented to me by Chrome
