When I click on verizon email, a tab falls and says that it is an unsecure site. Why is this and can't it be made secure?

It can be made secure. Other email providers do it, so there is no reason Verizon can't.
That is one of the reasons I only use Verizon mail for trivial stuff.
Walt makes a great point, I would recommend using a site such as https://mail.zoho.com/biz/index.do to receive and send VZ email, & calendar , contacts. It is totally free, plus you get a free zoho email account and NO SPAM! The limit on my account is over 4 GB, I use about 100 MB (LOL)
