CAUTION ASIA TRAVELERS: Verizon has ZERO international roaming agreements in Asia.

It will cost you over $20 a MB to run your smart phone data in Asia. This was as of Jan `11 and has not changed as of August `11.

International data usage is very expensive with Verizon pretty much everywhere you go.

All the details are available here: http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Global_Phone/plans_coverage.html

This isn't something Verizon tries to hide.  You're almost always going to get better rates by investing in a GSM-capable phone, unlocking it, and then using a local SIM card for your service.

You are better off with the new AT&T international roaming plans which are MUCH cheaper.

The engineering reason that AT&T CAN do this is the 2-way agreements of in-bound international roaming visitors to the USA from abroad.

(User X in Carrier X has their mobile phone roaming on AT&T Mobility while in the USA and amount of data consumed, AT&T returns the favor for their customers).

Verizon due to its CDMA technology (although more spectrally efficient than GSM 2G it is ON PAR with GSM 3G), has only 10% of the international roaming traffic on its network in the USA than AT&T simply due to technology.

There are Asia CDMA deployments with the Verizon SID's in those PRL's allowing Asian CDMA carriers to roam on VZW's network in the USA.

Second I believe VZW still believes in the RIPOFF profit motive, they should lower their rates, the infrastructure+cost isn't THAT expensive anymore.

BTW I bet you didn't even SELECT a VZW international roaming data plan, they are $30 for 75MB and $100 for 250MB.

Those rates are PPU (PAY PER USE), which is COMPLETELY A RIP-OFF! (Or not use it at all, turn off data roaming!).

AT&T's new international roaming data rates are here: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-packages.jsp?wtSlotClick=1-...

$100 on AT&T gets you 275MB while $100 on VZW gets you only 100MB.

If you have charges than ask VZW CSR to PRO-RATE your charges ONTO A VZW INTERNATIONAL ROAMING DATA/VOICE PLAN! See the link above. She will add the plan and back-date the charges.

The VZW plan is semi-decent.

The PPU (pay per use) charges are NOT.
