I am looking at making a change to my plan shortly since I plan on upgrading to the iPhone 13 Pro.
Currently I have the "New Verizon Plan Unlimited" which I got several years ago when Verizon reintroduced unlimited plans. I know they have had several different unlimited plans but when I looked a couple years ago the newer plans were not as good as the new Verizon Plan unlimited so I chose to stay with that.
The fact I am looking at a 5G phone has made me start looking at plans.
Currently I am paying $173.50 since I have 4 total lines on it, all smartphones. Two of those are veterans so I get a $16 discount monthly. According to Verizon they suggest I change to the Play More Unlimited which would get me a cost estimated at $180/month so only $6.50 more.
It seems features are similar except my current plan is 4G LTE Only where no 5G is included where the Play More plan would include 5G Ultra Wideband along with 5G nationwide. Also it seems I can use up to 50GB of data before throttling becomes a possibility. It's not noted on here but if I'm correct the current plan doesn't has the potential or throttling once I hit 22 GB.
Both seem to have unlimited mobile hotspot with throttling down to 600KBps after 15GB of usage where the new plan would have also 15GB of usage before it throttles down to 600Kbps. Although I likely won't use it seems with the current plan I get Disney + for 6 months where with the newer plan I'd get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ long as I have the plan. Both plans seem to have unlimited talk and text along with talk, text, and data for Mexico and Canada with a slowdown to 2G after .5GB of data. As well seems to have intl. texting to over 200 countries.
Looking at this it seems I lose nothing by going to the new plan and some things like throttling not hitting until 50GB seem to be an improvement. Yet what I gain as well is 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultrawide band which I don't have now. If I read correctly I can add 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultrawide to my current plan for $10/month but that would take it to $183.50 which means this new plan would be $3.50 cheaper since I'd add that plus a higher amount of data before throttling hits.
I realize I currently have Verizon cloud storage and would lose that with the new plan but I don't se it. I see there is a Do More plan that adds Verizon cloud storage but gives up Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. I see if I pay $10/month more I basically add unlimited mobile hotspot to 30GB.
I don't believe I ever have gone over 15GB of hotspot usage and if so would gladly just upgrade to the $10/month more plan. Data usage seems to avg around 28GB of month currently among my entire plan.
I want to clarify one thing. When I read things like the hotspot limit of 15GB and 50GB of data before throttling is this per line or per plan meaning 50GB between 4 devices or just for each one? Is there any difference in this between the old and new plan?
It seems like a given I should upgrade to this new plan. Yet I realize once I do I then no longer can switch to the old plan. Is there something I'm overlooking before I make this change?
Wow! Mark, you have done a great detailed review of the plans and features, the fact you can choose what plan works for you and move up and down as needed is a great fact you can rest on.
If you upgrade and have the enjoyment of the 5G speeds in your area is the only question. You can verify if the 5G UWB is in your area and then pick to pay for it or not. the rest of the details you have already reviewed.
Thank you for taking the time to do so much research and dedication to make the best-educated decision on your new plan and New iPhone 13 Pro.
