Porting an inactive landline

I activated a new line on my wireless plan, but it came with a temporary number whereas I had requested to get a number ported in. The number was showing up as inactive with the porting agent of the wireless porting department, and so when I called Verizon home phone service's porting agent, it was appearing as "not selectable." The number it seems has been inactive for more than 90 days, but is still registered in my family's name. I don't have the account number associated with the number being ported, but is there some way that this number could be assigned to my line?
